This work depicts the type of harmonious collaboration that puts self second to a greater cause. Sometime, not all, our society must demand the participation of all in order to face an overwhelming threat or an alarming change which concerns everyone. In these times, Americans need to step beyond their believed individual rights and realize that those individual rights are only protected because we, literally MY Ancestors, fought together and died selflessly to assure them. When I saw the gross entitlement that many Americans believe to be an inalienable right, I was, frankly, pissed. How had our society not differentiated this simple concept to it's citizens. It was not anyone persons fault that our American culture fell so divided. It was a lack of threat. It was the decades of safety and personal disillusionment that our personal lives mattered more than our entirety. When a country—as the United States has—protects and preserves the rights of its people so completely, those who have not had to sacrifice to enjoy or maintain those privileges are too insulated from hardships. In turn, they live for themselves as if capitalism was the theology that created our great country rather than democracy. Celeste, a Georgia nurse, whose son Nicholas contacted me was, Collective Good #15. She is the embodiment of the American spirit, continuing to put herself in harms way even though those who needed her help often had been unwilling to do the same for her.
