The image on this cup was on the invitation of my second art show in Austin, Texas. The year was 2000. I chose to feature this image because of it's simplicity. So little line, and yet, the image had presence. I'd been drawing in line for years trying to find the beauty and balance I imagined with the line, but it is far more elusive in practice than the minds' eye.
Last week and twenty-one years later, the buyer of the original art sent me a picture. He let me know that his family still adores the art. That the—no more that 5x5 inch image itself—has traveled around the country with them.
What an amazing feeling it was to hear. To find out art which has long ago left your hands, still gives joy daily is, well, magical. Thank you David for sharing your journey with my art. It is an incredible gift to receive.
You can see that my figures have changed some, but the essence of the ideas behind my single line drawings have not.
