Dr. Seuss’ Star Belly Sneechs get a windfall of cash from the Federal Reserve and the Cares Act.
Sorry Senator Cruz…I’m taking Dr. Seuss back! When appropriating iconic literary work shouldn’t it fit the tone and messaging of the original author? What the Democrats have done with the Cares Act is far more suitable for a Dr. Seuss story than recently, tweeted One Fish Two Fish Red Fish "really stupid left-wing censoring totalitarian asinine angry" Blue Fish from Senator Cruz.
Perhaps there are some reading comprehension issues in the Republican Party. Dr. Seuss’ books have morals. They teach sharing and inclusion. Not, filibuster and block health care proposals so children can’t get medical benifits, as Cruz did by reading Green Eggs and Ham in 2013's health care filibuster. Imagine the Dr. Seuss book with star bellied Sneeches that load No Stars on their bellies onto a bus to be shipped across a barren Seuss-like country, hungry, sick, scared. Yeah, can’t quite see how Senator Cruz’s twisted logic fits the Dr. S brand, but would give billions (if I had it) to see the story Seuss would write about Cruz and cronies, even more to see his illustrations. :)
It’s a lowbrow high jacking. Republicans have appropriated Dr. Suess for it's beloved brand, not because their political actions and the books’ content align, but in hopes to mobilize middle America against imaginary culture-stealing villains by creating terror and panic through perceived loss.
Let’s get the story straight from the beginning. No culture war is happening. Dr. Suess Enterprises is a company trying to protect a creative legacy. The six retired books in question aren't a blight on the author as much as they are of the time. Since when do Republicans believe that they have the right to tell companies what they can sell and what they can't? They don't. And yet, Cruz and fellow Republicans are acting like "the government" or Democratic Party are burning Dr. Suess books in the town square. They are not. The decision was made by a corporation based on market demand and sales which is capitalism—as American and iconic as Suess itself. Learn to separate parasites from patronage.
