Sound waves make for the perfect graphic design element and I decided to showcase various sounds to have a set of sound wave CUPs (135, 136,137).
Across the midpoint of CUP #135 is a visual representation of sound waves. The inviting design pattern isn’t an accident; it’s natural law plotted by math in graph format. I used to hate math but loved science. A creative university math professor presented math as a language. Since, my understanding of math has undergone a metamorphism.
When I began to create visual metaphors for natural phenomena’s in scientific studies like physics, math started to make sense. Math is a tool just like a pencil. When you can plot every point that happens using mathematical devices, you are completing the picture of separate dots into a complete image. Math colors in natural phenomena.
Communication is the great translator of metaphors. If language can be established, and communication relayed, then I’m interested. Like all languages, I started to become fascinated with natures’ language. Sound is one of the bases of human and most species intercommunication.
For this reason, math used to plot the activity of a naturally occurring subject will establish a pattern…eventually.
