“The Nature of Nature” is a mini fable. The maturation of the butterfly is the perfect paradigm of the human experience. By all human calculations, the passage of time will not allow for permanency, and therefore, metamorphism from the subatomic to the metaphysical is a revolving door of opportunity.
Yet this story is not just about the hero, the butterfly, but also of its observers. To the caterpillar, the butterfly might be an unwelcome make-over. The physical alteration shifts the dynamics between them. With wings the butterfly has gained a new perspective. In truth, the caterpillar too could have this gift, but the development into an adult is not guaranteed. In fact, the caterpillar must learn lessons and survive first.
