I was contacted today. Someone had a piece of mine and wanted some insight about it. This was my response.
I mean!!! I can’t believe it. Okay, that is one of my first oil paintings. I had just left advertising. (Gsd&m) where I’d worked on Southwest airlines tagline, coors, texas lottery, PGA golf, mastercard television, for personal problems in marriage. I was using art to express myself and remain creative. A lot of my work during that time was (and still is) self reflective. I wanted to capture a human form in movement but almost have the internal dialogue of the person be outwardly told. I was, also, exploring the medium.
I knew how to draw (uga art student) and watercolor, but it’s different when you are challenged with a new tool. When using watercolor, you start slowly laying down layers. As you do, the pigment builds. In oils you go from dark to light. You have one of my first attempts to use oils from dark to light!
Thank you for contacting me. How fun!!! I’m going to do a CUP today on this! (Project i’m currently doing: 365 days/365 coffee cups.
