Nano Nano from Mork and Mindy.

More ways hands have interacted to communicate. This example from the late seventies might be pure silliness, but does show the range of ways we use our hands even if it's storytelling building on a history of science fiction hand gestures.

Perhaps the writer of the sitcom Mork and Mindy was a Star Trek fan. The goofy nighttime series staring a young Robin Williams simply took the Vulcan greeting and turned it on its side. Possibly a wink to the fellow science fiction writers of the day. I knew how Vulcans would greet each other. Makes perfect sense that other distant galatical beings would also spread their 2nd and 3rd fingers in a strange handshake-type-way. I hadn't a clue how Africans or Indians or Scandinavians might say hello, but Vulcans and Orks, I could have met quite successfully on an interstellar voyage.

Let's break this down even more. Mork was a character that first appeared in a Happy Days episode in 1978. The episode was "My Favorite Orkan." "My Favorite Orkan" was a head nod to the ever popular 1960's My Favorite Martian. I was not a viewer of this television series, still just drooling, but I found the images of the characters to be highly humorous and satirical even sixty years later.

Even more ironic and iconic is the premise of My Favorite Martian which thanks to wikipedia I now know. An extraterrestrial becomes stranded on Earth after a collision with U.S. Air Force plane, living out his days as "Uncle Martin". (Yes, because he's a Martian.) Now...given that CUP #31 of 365 Days/365 Coffee Cups features the incredible denial phenomena of alien reality (2021 United States Air force and United States Navy both admit to UFO's occurrences for decades. Government armed forces call it  an "Unidentified Aerial Phenomena".) I think this full circle of communication and indoctrination cause for an intellectual study.
