A single line drawing depicting the George Floyd protests.

To continue the conversation from CUP #273 and the progress social unrest provides through protesting, I want to highlight rights won (JUST IN AMERICA) or policies changed by using this practice.

Here is a great site:
US Protest Law Tracker

There are too many to list…here are some massive marches on issues (but not specific legislation protests like gay marriage or women’s right to vote).

George Floyd
BLM protests
The March for Our Lives
March for Science
The Women’s March on Washington
Earth Day
LBGQ March on Washington rights and liberation
March for Our Lives (gun law reforms)
Great American Boycott
Anti-Nuclear Weapon March
End the War in Vietnam
Stonewall Inn “Riots” (when homosexuality was illegal)
Million Mile March
Selma
The March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom
Montgomery Bus Strike
Woman Suffrage Parade
GM Sit Down Strikes
Boston Tea Party

Finally, I’d like to mention rioting. Yeah, it happens, and yeah, it sucks, and yeah it gives people reasons to dismiss the cause of outrage, but it’s reality rooted in the problem. Address the cry’s for justice and there will be no reason for riot. Ask yourself, if there weren’t hundreds of thousands of disgruntled people could looters exploit protests? Nope.
